Title:The development and adaptation of the Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments in Brazil ?-
Source:s.l; s.n; 1993. 8p p. .
Abstract:The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the complexities of adapting technology and developing the sensory testing technique of the Semmes-Weinstein (S-W) monofilaments in Brazil to enable early detection and monitoring of peripheral nerve function in Hansen's disease(Hd). This history of the adoption and implementation of the use of theS-Wmonofilaments in Brazil follows the sequence described in adoption and diffusion theory of innovations. As a result, the availability of the S-W monofilaments produced in Brazil facilitated the utilization of this sensory testing technique in Brazil. In addition, the Brazilian model proved to be more accessible, durable, portable, and practical in meeting local needs. It improved health care worker awareness of and desire to use better sensory testing technology, making it possible to prevent disability.

Title:Ocular leprosy in the Canal Zone ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; Jan.-Mar. 1977. 5 p. ilus, tab.
Abstract:The results of a two year survey of eye problems among the patients at the Palo Seco Hospital in the Canal Zone are presented. Only two patients, one classified as having lepromatous leprosy and the other as having the tuberculoid form of the disease, failed to exhibit ocular complications. The high prevalence of leprotic ocular disease (96%) is most probably due to the advanced age of the patients, the lengthy duration of their illness, and the high percentage of patients afflicted by the lepromatous form of the disease.(AU).
