Abstract: Em pacientes de M.H. apresentando ângulo naso-labial alterado e perfil côncavo, os autores fazem a correção plastica usando a seguinte técnica: Após marcação de retalhos genianos com ped¡culos nas inserções das asas nasais, é feita a dessepetilização dessas áreas e as incisões sobre a região do maxilar anterior e, em seguida, transpassam-se os retalhos dermogordurosos através desse deslocamento, em sentido contrário um do outro, e suturam-se as extremidades sob as asas opostas. Desta forma há correção satisfatória do ângulo columelo-labial e do contôrno do maxilar anterior atrofiado. Abstract: Thirty patients with lepromatous leprosy of long duration were examined for gingival and periodontal changes. All patients presented with chronic gingivitis and periodontitis of an unspecific type. Etiologic factors affecting the development of gingival and periodontal changes in this disease are: lack of oral hygiene with severe plaque and calculus formation due to the inability of the patients to perform oral hygiene, mouth breathing, specific granulomatous infiltrations, and a possible specific drug action. Specific changes in form of 'facies leprosa' are not pathognomonic of lepromatous leprosy but may be found in 20% of the cases among Thai and Chinese patients. Occurrence and pathogenesis of 'facies leprosa' is described.(AU). Abstract: The communication is based on the experience with 380 reconstructive operations in the face fo patients at the residual stage of leprosy. A classification of the sequelae of leprosy in the face, which includes all types of disfigurement and facilitates selection of the most rational method of surgical treatment for each group, has been elaborated. in most patients who have overcome leprosy, a combination of all kinds of deformations and defects in the facecan be observed, which requires a whole complex of plastic operations in order to take off the mask of leprosy. Reconstructive operations in the face are indicated at the stage of deep regression or in residual leprosy. The paper deals with the successful repair of deformations of the nose by means of dividing the subcutaneous scar contractures and of constructing a supporting cartilage scaffolding, of reconstructing the nose and lips with a Filatov pedicle flap, of repairing facila-muscle palsy with a tape of fascia and lagophthalmos with a myofascial-band plasty, of reconstructing the eye browns with arterialized flaps on subcutaneous pedicles, and of other reconstructive and cosmetic operations. The skin wounds have healed well in leprosy patients, and no hypertrophic or kelloid scar formation has been observed.(AU). Abstract: In cases of leprosy presenting abnormal septolabial angle and scaphoid facies as result of destruction of the nasal spine and atrophy of the alveolar process of the maxillary bone, the following technique is adopted: after ink delineation of the nasolabial flaps with a nasal upper pedicle, flaps are obtained through masions and remotion of the epidermis; the nasal floor is undermined over the anterior maxilla; the fatdermal flaps are passed through the undermined area until they appear under the opposite external nose. With such technique nasolabial angle and the atrophied contour of the anterior maxilla are adequately corrected.At the same time the restracted nose is relined by means of the median forehead flap.(AU). Abstract: Characteristic bone lesions in leprosy affect the small bones of the face, hands, and feet. They are due directly to leprous infection imposed upon denervated tissues. The manifestations of leprous bone infection vary from the presence of bacilli in the bone to actual destruction. Distal absorption involves fingers and toes with the loss of digits. Combined absorption of lenght and width of bone often affects the metatarsophalangeal joints. Tarsal absorption patterns are determined by abnormal weight-bearing forces and infection.(AU).
