Abstract: A doença enxerto contra hospedeiro e uma complicaçao comum nos pacientes submetidos ao transplante de medula ossea alogenico. Com o objetivo de contribuir para o esclarecimento da participaçao daas celulas de Langerhans na doença enxerto contra hospedeiro cronica (GVHDc) quando de sua ocorrencia na mucosa bucal, foram analisados 40 pacientes onco-hematologicos e hematologicos submetidos ao transplante de medula ossea alogenico no Hospital Amaral Carvalho, Jau - SP. Cortes microscopicos de 3um de espessura da mucosa jugal com padrao de normalidade (controle 20 pacientes) e de pacientes transplantados com e sem GVHDc, foram avaliados em hematoxilia e eosia e pela tecica imuno-histoquinica padrao da estreptavidina-biotina-peroxidase utilizando-se o anticorpo monoclonal anti-CD1a. As celulas de Langerhans imunomarcadas foram quantificadas no epitelio da mucosa jugal, sendo o numero medio destas celulas estatificantes comparado entre os pacientes controle e os pacientes transplantados com e sem GVHDc. Os resultados demonstraram um maior numero de celulas de Langerhans na mucosa jugal dos pacientes com GVHDc quando comparado aqueles sem GVHDc e ao grupo controle (p=0,001)...(AU). Abstract: The incidence of facial deformity is high in leprosy. Once deformity has become established and is not reversible by medical therapy, it is correctable only by surgery. Plastic surgical procedures have been developed and are standardized for the correction of the common facial deformities due to leprosy.It is essential to include methods of plastic surgical reconstruction in a program of rehabilitation designed to assist these patients for their return to society. The plastic surgical correction of facial deformities in leprosy is most rewarding; although it is of lesser early importance than medical management, it is essential in the later rehabilitation of patients who have had leprosy.(AU). Abstract: A hanseníase ainda representa um grave flagelo em nosso meio onde o estigma decorrente da doença é forte o suficiente para marginalizar os portadores de suas següelas. A madarose superciliar é uma alteração muito freqüente, caracterizada mas não patognomônica desta doença, sendo geralmente bilateral e definitiva. Neste estudo procuramos corrigir a madarose superciliar decorrente da hanseníase pela aplicação de tranplante de múltiplos enxertos cilíndricos de couro cabeludo removidos com auxílio de "punch". Um conjunto de características capazes de determinar o resultado final das cirurgias foi observado em um dos 17 pacientes operados por meio desta técnica, após o 8§ mês pós-operatório. O aspecto isolado de cada supercílio foi considerado BOM em 22 (64,70 por cento), ACEITÁVEL em 6 (17,65 por cento) e RUIM em 6 (17,65 por cento). A aparência estética final de cada paciente foi considerada SATISFATÓTIA em 14 (82,35 por cento) e INSATISFATÓRIA em 3 (17,65 por cento). Os enxertos cilíndricos incorporaram com sucesso aos orifícios receptores. O procedimento estudado demonstrou ser simples, seguro e eficaz e isento de complicações significativas reunindo todas as qualidades necessárias para a sua execução em um grande número de pacientes. O autor destacou ainda importantes aspectos relativos a reinserção psico-social completa destes pacientes na sociedade. (AU).
