Los órganos mayormente afectados por el depósito de la sustancia amiloide son: hígado, bazo, rinón, etc. El de capital importancia sospechar la presencia de esta enfermedad y realizar tinciones especiales sobre material de biopsia obtenido del órgano presuntamente afecto tales como Rojo-Congo, Meteramina Argéntica, que pongan de manifesto las características propias de esta proteína, así como una oxidación con solución de Romañy que diferencie una amiloidosis secundaria (AA) de una primaria (AL). El presente enfermos es un varón de 70 años de edad efecto de lepra lepromatosa desde los 30 años que incumplía el tratamiento específico desde hacía 18. (AU). Abstract: Fourteen hundred and forty five biopsied tissues of various organs including liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, lymphnode, larynx and skin from 1222 patients of leprosy obtained during the last 10 years have been examined histopathologically to study various types of pathological lesions. These patients ranged in age from 7 years to 72 years and the duration of illness varied from less than one year to twenty years. Although the presence of lepromatous granuloma, AFB in varying proportions, and some nonspecific lesions have been observed in them, but amyloidosis was not detected in any of them. This finding is discussed in view of the observations of other authors of different parts of the world in this connection. Consumption of mainly vegetarian diet in our population and that of meat in Western population has been suggested to be the probable cause of the difference of amyloidosis observed in the two groups of people.(AU). Abstract: Twenty one patients of lepromatous leprosy were investigated for evidence of renal diseases. Histological lesions were observed in 76 percent cases. Sixty two percent of the cases showed a proliferative type of glomerulonephritis. Amyloidosis was present in 14 percent. The remaining 24 percent had either non-specific changes confined to renal tubules or were normal.(AU).
